De afgelopen jaren werd er natuurlijk al vaker gezinspeeld op de verschijning van het vervolg:<\/p>\n

Originally, the second\u00a0Tintin\u00a0film was going to be based on Herg\u00e9’s\u00a0The Seven Crystal Balls\u00a0and\u00a0Prisoners of the Sun.[124]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0However, screenwriter\u00a0Anthony Horowitz<\/a>\u00a0later stated that those books would be the second sequel and another story would become the first sequel.[125]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

Peter Jackson announced that he would direct the sequel once he had finished\u00a0The Hobbit\u00a0trilogy<\/a>.[124]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Two years before\u00a0The Secret of the Unicorn, Jackson mentioned that his favorite\u00a0Tintin\u00a0stories were\u00a0The Seven Crystal Balls,\u00a0Prisoners of the Sun,\u00a0The Black Island<\/a>, and\u00a0The Calculus Affair<\/a>, but he had not yet decided which stories would form the basis of the second film. He added “it would be great” to use\u00a0Destination Moon<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Explorers on the Moon<\/a>\u00a0for a third or fourth film in the series.[126]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

By the time\u00a0The Secret of the Unicorn\u00a0was released, Spielberg said the book that would form the sequel had been chosen and that the Thomson and Thompson detectives would “have a much bigger role”.[127]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The sequel would be produced by Spielberg and directed by Jackson.[127]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Kathleen Kennedy said the script might be completed by February or March 2012 and motion-captured in summer 2012, so that the film would be on track to be released by Christmas 2014 or mid-2015.[128]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

In the months following the release of\u00a0The Secret of the Unicorn, Spielberg revealed that a story outline for the sequel had been completed and that it was based on two books.[129]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Horowitz\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0Professor Calculus<\/a>\u00a0would be introduced in the sequel.[130]<\/a><\/sup>[131]<\/a><\/sup>During a press tour in Belgium for\u00a0The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey<\/a>, Jackson said he intended to shoot performance-capture in 2013, aiming for a release date in 2015.[132]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

In March 2013, Spielberg said, “Don’t hold me to it, but we’re hoping the film will come out around Christmas-time in 2015. We know which books we’re making, we can’t share that now but we’re combining two books which were always intended to be combined by Herg\u00e9.” He refused to confirm the names of the books, but said\u00a0The Blue Lotus\u00a0would probably be the third\u00a0Tintin\u00a0film.[133]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In December 2014, when asked if the\u00a0Tintin\u00a0sequel would be his next project after\u00a0The Hobbit\u00a0trilogy, Jackson said that it would be made “at some point soon”. However, he added that he wanted to direct two New Zealand films before that.[134]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

In June 2015, Jamie Bell stated that the sequel was titled\u00a0Tintin and the Temple of the Sun\u00a0and that he hoped shooting would begin in early 2016 for a possible release by the end of 2017 or early 2018.[135]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In November 2015, Horowitz stated that he was no longer working on the sequel, and did not know if it was still being made,[136]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and in March 2016, he confirmed that the script he had written for the sequel was scrapped.[137]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

On 19 November 2015,\u00a0Polygon<\/a>\u00a0announced that the sequel was titled\u00a0The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun\u00a0and that it would be released in December 2016.[138]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0On 18 March 2016,\u00a0Scout.co.nz<\/a>\u00a0announced that Jackson would produce the sequel rather than direct, and that it would be released on 16 December. They also announced that a third\u00a0Tintin\u00a0film was in development, with Jackson serving as executive producer. Jamie Bell and Andy Serkis were reported to be reprising their roles in both the films,[139]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0but Serkis stated later in the month that he did not know when the sequel was going to enter production, despite claiming that Jackson was still interested in making it.[140]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/p>\n

In March 2018 Spielberg reiterated the above in saying “Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if all goes well, he will soon start working on the script.
