Sociologist and theologian Kees de Groot will tell you all about them. Illustrating his point using numerous examples from the comic strip, he will show that you always need to read twice to understand comic strips!<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that the adventures of Tintin are deeply interwoven with Catholic social values. With its origins in the reactionary movement in Belgian Catholicism, it shares with it themes like anti-communism, anti-capitalism, anti-Semitism, and the fear of \u2018secret societies\u2019. Although it still advocated Catholic values in the public domain, it became more implicit during World War II in its fictional adventures. If you consider the comic albums at the time they were published, you will also see how the values promoted changed over time. Would this mean then that, given his roots, Tintin would now feel quite at home with the current revival of conservative Catholicism: PiS in Poland, Steve Bannon &amp; Cardinal Burke, and the activists of civitas christiana?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Op donderdag 25 oktober a.s. houdt Kees de Groot een lezing over het bovengenoemde. (Kees) de Groot<\/a>\u00a0heeft eerder gesproken en geschreven over Kuifje. Hij heeft o.a. <a href=\"https:\/\/pure.uvt.nl\/ws\/files\/1529746\/DB40_Katholiek.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">een 2-tal artikelen<\/a> over de katholieke achtergrond van Kuifje op zijn naam staan, welke ook in Duizend Bommen! zijn terug te vinden. Respectievelijk <a href=\"https:\/\/hergegenootschap.nl\/wp2\/?s=kees+de+groot+duizend+bommen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">de nummers 40 en 41\u00a0<\/a>uit 2013. In datzelfde jaar leverde hij een bijdrage, met als titel &#8220;Kuifje als katholieke held&#8221;,\u00a0 aan\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uitgeverijparthenon.nl\/inkijkexemplaar_mammon.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Vrienden met de mammon De levensbeschouwelijke dimensie in de economie&#8221;.<\/a>\u00a0In 2014,15 en 16 besprak hij enkele malen onze (en naar ik dus aanneem ook zijn) held. Daarnaast schreef hij\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/journals.equinoxpub.com\/index.php\/IR\/article\/view\/31123\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tintin as a Catholic comic.
